Roberto, our head Bakery/Deli Supervisor, has been a part of the Food City family for 33 years. After serving as a Store Manager at our 7444 Gateway East location, he became the head Bakery/Deli Supervisor for each of our stores. His love for food is evident in the way he describes the steps involved for making our pastries and deli items. "If it doesn't come from the heart, it won't come out good! I love to cook and eat!" he says.
As a Store Manager, Roberto would make his famous chile de arbol in small batches for customers buying carnitas in the deli. The demand grew, so he soon decided to package and sell it. Roberto quickly began the process of perfecting his recipe and getting it approved by the USDA.
Although the recipe is a highly guarded secret in the Food City family, we can reveal the ingredients- tomatillo, cilantro, tomato, cumin, and a few other secret spices. Roberto's Chile de Arbol doesn't contain any preservatives and has a shelf life in the refrigerator of 30 days. We like it best on tacos, eggs, and carnitas. Comment below and tell us how you like it best!
Roberto has also created a following for his Salsa Verde. The burritos we serve in our delis come with the Salsa Verde on the side, and our customers come back again and again for this delicious pairing. Made with jalapenos, tomatoes, garlic salt, and onion salt, this salsa verde is also sold in 16 oz. containers like our Chile de Arbol.
Jalapenos are boiled until they are fully cooked for our Salsa Verde.
Roberto's talents aren't only limited to salsa. Customers come in daily to place orders with him for their parties. Need a tray of carnitas or brisket for your next fiesta? Maybe a few dozen tamales? Come visit Roberto today, and let him know how he can help you make your party a success.
