All Hail to the Kale: Introducing Kale on Friday, November 21st

Posted on November 20, 2014 within NewsProduce

We're excited to officially announce that our Produce Departments will begin carrying kale on Friday, November 21st. It'll be on special this weekend for 99¢ per bunch, so you now have a great motivation to eat healthy from now until Thanksgiving Day. Kale is a superfood with amazing benefits. It can be used in salads, smoothies, and soups, and, you can even make kale chips. In case we haven't convinced you to try it yet, read our list of 10 reasons to eat kale:

  1. One cup of cooked kale has only 33 calories.
  2. It's rich in calcium. Per gram, kale has more calcium than milk. People should be asking, "Got kale?"
  3. Kale helps keep your heart healthy. With the high fiber to help lower cholesterol and its magnesium and potassium to help lower blood pressure, we heart kale even more!
  4. Kale has lots of Vitamin K. We all could use some more Vitamin K, because it helps with things like regulating blood sugar.
  5. In need of more iron? Eat some kale, with a side of kale.
  6. Kale is good for your liver. If you're in need of a detox, kale is a must on your grocery list!
  7. Kale is beaming with antioxidants, which help protect against cancer.
  8. Kale is a great anti-inflammatory agent, so stock up!
  9. This leafy green veggie is great for helping you lose weight.
  10. Thanksgiving is in a week, and we're already thinking about the turkey, potatoes, green bean casserole, pumpkin pie, and marshmallows on top of marshmallows we're going to eat. It's probably best to prep ourselves for the feast of the year with a cup or two of kale.
