Does the Roundabout Have You in Doubt?

Posted on February 12, 2015 within News

For over a year, construction has been taking place on the roads in front of our 5400 Alameda location (Fox Plaza). It can be confusing at times, and with the recent opening of a second lane in the roundabout, it can be even more confusing. We want you to get to our famous francesitos, fresh produce, and made-from-scratch tortillas as fast as you can, so here are a few tips on how to navigate the roundabout. Please note, we're not traffic experts!

What Are They Building?

Reconstruction of SH 20 (aka Alameda) in front of Food City is expected to continue through the summer. This Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) project involves improved lighting, improved drainage, sidewalks, two roundabouts, and a new "T" intersection at El Paso Drive. Customers Coming South on Paisano

If coming from I-10 or north of  I-10, most customers exit at Paisano and head south to reach us. There are a few recent changes that we'd like you to note:

  • The stop sign near the McDonald's on Paisano is no longer present. Heading south on Paisano, drivers will head directly into the roundabout.
  • If you're heading south on Paisano and want to get to Food City, the simplest route is to stay in the center lane. If you stay in the right lane, you must turn right. See the picture below:

Customers Driving West Toward Food City

If heading west on Alameda, you'll still see some construction. However, there is an open lane that will lead you straight into the roundabout. When the project is complete, you should expect to see something like this:

Customers Driving East Toward Food City

Heading east on Paisano toward Food City, you'll encounter a smaller roundabout before you reach the larger one in front of our store. You'll see this sign:

After driving through the smaller roundabout, you'll approach the larger one. The larger roundabout is between Food City and the Housing Authority. You'll notice a traffic sign before the larger roundabout like this, so be sure to stay in the far right lane:

You can expect to see something like when the project is complete:
